Veronica Reeves lowered the orb to the bottom of the shaft, and now the orb is about to fulfill its ancient purpose — the Rocktopi will not be taken alive. Connell is trying to escape the tunnels. O’Doyle and Lybrand are farther up the Linus Highway. They are badly wounded, and just stripped Angus Kool of his Koolsuit so that Lybrand could continue on. Meanwhile, Sonny McGuiness watches Funeral Mountain from a safe distance. But he is about to learn there is no such thing.
Patrick O’Doyle is badly wounded, but Bertha Lybrand is in even worse shape. Her KoolSuit has failed and she’s dying of heat exposure. They just came across Angus Kool, who is tied up with copper wire after being tortured by Kayla Meyers. He is helpless, at O’Doyle’s mercy. Kayla is farther down in the tunnels, in the ancient tracking down Connell Kirkland, who is carrying her bullet in his leg. Kayla needs to finish him off before she tracks down Veronica Reeves. Veronica is inside the ship, ab...more

Connell Kirkland, Bertha Lybrand, and Patrick O’Doyle made it through the ancient ship, but on the far side they spotted a heavily armed Kayla Meyers, and she isn’t there to rescue them. Kayla’s hunt for camp survivors is about to come to a grizzly end. Veronica Reeves didn’t make it through the ship. She thinks she’s figured out a way to make the rockopi pay for killing her father. She’s going to wipe them out, all of them, and doesn’t care who else dies in the process.
Kayla Meyers’ future is on the line as she descends deeper into the Linus Highway, looking for Angus Kool and any other survivors. Angus is almost out of the hellhole that is the Dense Mass Cavern and the maze of tunnels. Finally, Angus and Kayla will meet face-to-face. Veronica, Connell, Bertha, and O’Doyle are still in the tunnels, in an underground river being washed through the ancient wreck of the rocktopi ship. Bertha and O’Doyle are at death’s door, barely hanging on. Veronica burns at th...more
The silverbugs just attacked Bertha Lybrand and Patrick O’Doyle. He destroyed them, but not before they slashed Lybrand, cutting her bad, slicing off fingers. Angus Kool could have helped, but instead he fled into the underground river and was swept away into the ancient, ruined rocktopi ship. The horde of monsters is still outside the Dense Mass Cavern, held at bay only by ancient superstitions, but how long can that last?
Miles below the surface, Dr. Veronica Reeves has come face to face with her life’s work, but in a way she could have never imagined. Facing detailed carvings covered with strange symbols, can she finally piece together the history of the rocktopi. Angus and Randy are faced with a standoff against a new enemy, one that has been stalking them since they entered the massive, ruined ship. Meanwhile, Bertha Lybrand watches over a wounded Patrick O’Doyle — with his injuries and failing KoolSuit, will ...more
Connell, Bertha Lybrand, and the others escaped the rocktopi horde, at least for the moment. As they recover, Angus Kool and Randy Wright have slipped away to explore the ship — can they find something inside that massive ruin that will help them escape the tunnel complex?
Happy Valentine’s Day Junkies! We’re doing our best to stay on-brand and still celebrate love. You know, like the love of a great 80s slasher flick! Scott & A sat down this week to watch this 1981 horror … classic. It comes out pretty early on in the 80s slasher heyday, and it’s full of all that goodness: goofy plot devices, loads of teenagers sinnin’, plenty of gore and lots and lots of violence. All with great set design, some solid bloody prop work, and the world’s best dog actor.
A horde of rocktopi are hot on the heels of Connell, Bertha, Patrick, Veronica, and Sanji. Patrick is badly injured — will his wounds slow him enough for the rocktopi to cut him down? All five are out of ammo. They race for the Dense Mass Cavern, hoping they can, somehow, find shelter before it’s too late. Will they make it?
Groundhog Day on Groundhog Day? Are we in a time loop? Scott and A become gods (but not the god) as they discuss this 1993 classic, and the hordes of rodent-like movies “inspired” by it.
Connell and the others are trapped in the tunnels, and they’ve realized that the only way out is through. They need to reach the dense mass and cross over to the other side in order to, hopefully, reach the Linus Highway, the path Angus and Randy took to secretly enter the tunnels in the first place. Meanwhile, Kayla Meyers continues to stalk the group, looking for a chance to cut them all down. And, up on the surface, Sonny McGuiness has to find the courage to face up to his fears.
“But fights aren’t stories,” you say? WRONG-O, FISH-BREATH! Companies like the UFC are exceptional storytellers, creating tales with live performers and unwritten endings. A discusses her initial dismissal and disdain for combat sports, and how she’s come to change her mind. Scott talks about how getting punched in the mouth can lead one to discovering proper, civilized behavior. They both use UFC Fight Night 143 to discuss how these real-life storylines play out, with all the drama, violence, s...more
In the last episode, Connell, Veronica, Sanji, O’Doyle, and Lybrand barely escaped with their lives, rescued by Angus and Randy. But Mack Hendricks wasn’t so lucky. The survivors are holed up in a cave, trying to figure out their next move. Meanwhile, Kayla Meyers has entered the tunnel system, trying to track down those same survivors … and kill them. Will she find Angus?
Scott and A take a look at the Golden Globe-winning film that could have long-term ramifications on superhero storytelling. When a film so successfully brings a comic to life as a comic, what does that mean for big-budget live-action superhero films? Are the days of live flicks doomed?
Connell, Veronica, Mack, Lybrand, Sanji, and O’Doyle are under attack, trapped on a ledge. On one side, a sheer cliff and certain death. On the other, a crawling army of monsters, steadily closing in. But there is a way out — Angus Kool and Randy Wright just dropped down from a place higher up the cliff face. Can they get Connell and the others off the ledge before it’s too late?
Connell, Veronica, O’Doyle, and the others are trapped on a tunnel ledge overlooking a vast cavern filled with the Rocktopi. On one side, a sheer rock face that ends in certain death hundreds of feet below. On the other side, a tunnel system teeming with creatures that want to slice them to pieces. Meanwhile, Kayla Myers continues her hunt for Angus Kool and Randy Wright, the two Earthcore scientists that have inadvertently sabotaged her efforts to return to the NSA. Will she catch up with them?...more
Connell, O’Doyle, Lybrand and the others just endured a grueling, savage fight for life against the original occupants of the Picture Cavern. Deep in another part of the tunnel complex, Angus Kool and Randy Wright were dissecting a silverbug, trying to learn what technological secrets might be inside. And up on the surface, Kayla Meyers is ready to parlay the unimaginable discovery of the Funeral Mountain horrors into a shot at redemption, a shot at getting back her position in the National Secu...more
Bertha Lybrand is an army vet. She’s seen war. She’s killed men. But she’s never seen the horrors she faces now. She and Patrick must put their combat experience to the test if they are to survive what comes next. It’s kill or be killed.
Angus and Randy faked out Connell, Kayla, and more by faking the sabotage on their lab. Now they are deep in the tunnels of Funeral Mountain, about to spring a trap on an unsuspecting victim. And Connell, O’Doyle, and the others were fleeing from the stalking silverbugs when they ran into an impossibility — a tentacle god. A desperate, fatal situation, somehow, just got worse.
Veronica, Connell, and the others have been stalked through the tunnels, an enemy always at the edges of sight and sound. Now, those stalkers are about to close in. When they found the Picture Cavern, they saw evidence of an ancient, lost culture that worshiped strange gods. What new terror made by this culture awaits the crew? Gunfire roars and bullets blaze as a new threat emerges.
Fifteen thousand feet below Funeral Mountain, Connell, Veronica, Mack, Lybrand, Sanji, and O’Doyle are heading even deeper, trying to reach the Dense Mass Cavern and find a way out of their living tomb. They have found strange signs that say Killroy Was Here, but who made them? In this episode, the crew hits an obstacle they never expected. Up on the surface, Kayla Meyers has discovered that Angus Kool and Randy Wright are alive and in the hospital. They are two more loose ends; ends that she is...more
Veronica Reeves is an archeology PhD, a media darling for her discoveries on the slopes of Mount Fitz Roy, but now she finds herself trapped three miles below ground with Connell Kirkland and the others. Can she adjust to this desperate situation? Up on the surface, Sonny McGuiness is looking for survivors of the camp attack. One such survivor, Cho Takachi, has recently sent out a call for help — a call that is about to be answered.
Already deeper beneath the earth than anyone in history, Connell and the others continue their descent. With no way to go up, the only escape is down. On the surface, Cho Takachi — wounded, weak, and horribly sunburned, finally finds help. Or does he? And Sonny McGuiness weighs facts against his superstitions as he tries to figure out what happened to the Earthcore camp.
Following an attack on the Earthcore camp, Connell, Mack, O’Doyle, Veronica, Sanji, and Lyrband are still trapped three miles below ground. They are desperate to find a way out, and they are about to discover that they are not alone down there. Meanwhile, up on the surface, Kayla Meyers is looking for any survivors from the camp attack. Her future depends on finding them before anyone else does. At least one staffer — Cho Takachi — made it out of the camp. Does he have any chance of rescue?
The Earthcore camp has been wiped out. Only a handful of survivors remain on the surface. Kayla Meyers is one of those survivors, but who else remains alive? And what will Kayla do to them? And far beneath Funeral Mountain, another group is about to begin a desperate fight for life. Trapped three miles below ground, where rocks are so hot they burn bare skin, Connell, Veronica, Sanji, Bertha, Mack, and O’Doyle are cut off, with no hope for rescue. Are they already as good as dead and standing in...more
Scott and A were invited to attend the Hollywood premiere of BODIED, a film by Joseph Kahn. They discuss the movie, as well as the red-carpet and post-party experience. The film is in theaters now and will soon be on YouTube Red.
Connell Kirkland and others are three miles below Funeral Mountain, at the bottom of a world-record-deep elevator shaft. A strange thrumming has been filling the bottom of the shaft — what is that ominous sound? And up on the surface, Kayla Meyers has secretly been watching the Earthcore camp for days. She is about to witness an unprecedented horror.
Veronica Reeves, Sanji Haak, Connell Kirland, Mack Hendricks, Patrick O’Doyle, Bertha Lybrand, and others are in the “picture cavern,” a strange, large cavern three miles underground that seems to be the work of a lost, ancient culture. The caves are covered in pictoglyphs — what do those glyphs mean? Meanwhile, Sonny McGuiness’s “funny feeling” about Funeral Mountain has cranked up to skin-crawling levels. Will he stick around, or will he bail on the dig, and on his millions? And, Achmed and Ka...more
Our big party is over. The FDØ and ARealGirl recap SiglerFest2k18, the biggest SiglerFest yet. Fan appreciation is a major part of the business for some creators. Connell Kirkland, Veronica Reeves, and Sanji Haak descended the three-mile deep elevator to see something that mine engineer Mack Hendricks claimed had to be seen to be believed. What will he show them? O’Doyle is already down there, looking for the missing miner Brian Janson. And what is the source of that strange, metallic clicking echoing through the caverns?
Recorded live at SiglerFest2k18 in Las Vegas: Diseased Penis Teeth Monsters. The Bacon Number. A script that took five people to write. Fred Ward. A well-armed Mr. Keaton from FAMILY TIES. Reba. Egg from BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA. Land Sharks. The glory of this flick goes on and on. Join AB Kovacs and Scott Sigler for a delightful review of this campy classic.
Brian Janson fell into a shaft and broke his leg, forcing his partner Keith to hike back up the cave system to get help. Janson waits, alone, for rescue. Meanwhile, Katarina Hayes is trying to figure out what produced “the line,” a miles-long rectangle that seems to have been sliced into the mountain itself.
The Earthcore miners, led by Mack Hendricks, are finally ready to explore the caves, but small, unexplained ground tremors threaten lethal danger to anyone who enters. With Angus Kool and Randy Wright, the victims of lab sabotage, can Katarina Hayes find the source of these tremors before it's too late? That’s not her only problem — Hayes is trying to find a reason for an inexplicable miles-long-line that runs across the mountain, and goes down so far they can’t measure the depth. What caused it...more
If you’ve read my novel NOCTURNAL, you may recall the character Pookie Chang’s idea for a cop show. Like HILL STREET BLUES, BLUE BLOODS, NYPD BLUE, ROOKIE BLUE, SHADES OF BLUE, etc., Pooks decided his show should have that color as a titular part of the title. Hence, BLUE BALLS. In NOCTURNAL, Pookie might be considered the sidekick to Bryan Clauser’s lead character. In BLUE BALLS, which Pookie writes as a spec script to sell to network TV, he is the heroic lead, and Bryan is the bumbling also-ra...more
Archaeologist Veronica Reeves begins to put the evidence together, and it points to an unprecedented discovery — a culture that once spread at least from Utah down to the tip of South America — the largest prehistoric culture ever. Meanwhile, the vertical shaft is nearing the end, when the Earthcore miners will finally be able to enter the massive network of tunnels. Are they just a ...more

A lab accident has injured Angus Kool and Randy Wright. Could it be sabotage? Could outside forces be trying to derail Earthcore’s dig, or could it even be an inside job? Meanwhile, Sonny McGuiness is closing in on finding yet another dark secret of the desolate peak in the Wah Wah mountain range. But this secret looks … lethal.
Angus Kool has been plotting for a chance to slip away from the Earthcore camp and test the tech that will let him explore the tunnels before anyone else, but he doesn’t know that ex-NSA agent Kayla Meyers is watching their every move. And so has Sonny McGuiness, who is looking for a way to cash in himself. Meanwhile, Veronica Reeves’ objection to Earthcore’s mining is eroding in the face of the company’s resources and technology, which is letting her discover the long-hidden horrors of the dig ...more
Complications in the mine drilling have caused critical slowdowns — Connell Kirkland doesn’t accept slowdowns. What will he do to motivate Mack Hendricks and the others to work faster? And it’s about to get worse, as a huge delay drives right up to the mine’s front gate.
Connell Kirkland has just learned that Earthcore’s camp is sitting above a four-mile-long, half-mile-wide chunk of solid platinum. Now he must share that information with Earthcore owner Barbara Yakely, who is back in Denver. The two of them will figure out what comes next. Meanwhile, Angus Kool and his assistant Randy Wright are looking to sneak away and explore the mountain’s tunnel complex. Will they be the first humans to discover unseen passages? And, archaeologist Veronica Reeves learned o...more
The Earthcore camp is supposed to be a secret, but ex-NSA agent Kayla Meyers is damn good at uncovering secrets. She’s discovered the camp location, and now must learn all she can. She will be watching from afar when Connell Kirkland finally arrives on site, and is welcomed in by head mining engineer Mack Hendricks. Angus Kool is already on site, and has been hard at work — what has he discovered about the massive platinum deposit?
Sonny McGuiness and Cho Takachi have been researching the history of the Wah Wah mountains and the Silver Spring, the find that put Earthcore on the hunt for the biggest platinum deposit ever discovered. They have found a disturbing artifact, a deadly artifact, and must learn more. Meanwhile, Connell Kirkland must find a mining engineer that can dig to a world-record depth of three miles underground. A PANDEMIC tie-in — how did the events of that story impact Denver, where Connell must visit the Earthcore labs? At the lab, Connell gets the low-down on just how big the Silver Spring find might be. But if the company can’t reach the mother lode, no matter how big it is, it is worthless. What will Connell, Angus, and Patrick O’Doyle do to solve this problem?
Sonny McGuiness and Cho Takachi have been tasked with researching the past of the staggering Silver Spring find in the Utah’s Wah Wah mountains. They are about to learn that history has not been kind to miners in that area. At the same time, Earthcore’s head scientist, Angus Kool, and his lackey Randy Right are heading up the effort to analyze the site’s size and potential. Angus can’t wait to get back to the company offices in Denver because he’s going to find a way to tear Connell Kirkland a n...more
Sonny McGuiness has sold his interest in the Silver Spring mine to Earthcore, but he’s still involved in the project. A fat percentage awaits him if he goes to work for Earthcore’s hard-ass director, Connell Kirkland. Kirkland wants to make sure Sonny stays in the picture. Meanwhile, Connell now must make sure other interests aren’t looking at the Utah site, and he has to get his experts started on discovering just how big this find might be. For that, he needs the services of Randy Wright, and ...more
Connell Kirkland wants dirt on Sonny McGuiness, a prospector who has quite possibly found the most valuable metal deposit ever discovered. To get that dirt, he needs info from the one person who knows Sonny better than anyone — metallurgist Herbert Darker, who has analyzed Sonny’s finds for decades. To get that info from Herbert, Connell has enlisted the services of Kayla Meyers … former NSA agent who specializes in retrieving information, by any means necessary.
Prospector Sonny McGuiness has unwittingly found the mother lode in the hills of Utah. He thinks he’s found silver, when in truth he has hit the El Dorado of a more valuable material — platinum. A find so pure it might prove to be the most valuable deposit on the planet. Connell Kirland wants that find. To get it, he needs the dirt on McGuiness, and to get that dirt, there is only one person he can call … a woman named Farm Girl.
Sonny McGuiness found the fabled Silver Spring and has turned in his first findings for analysis. Is the find for real? Is he about to be a rich man? Sonny’s find will soon bring him into the sights of one Connell Kirkland — a place no one wants to be.
In the last episode, the book’s prologue set the stage for a nasty bit of evil lurking in the desolate hills of Utah. Now the book begins in earnest as Connell Kirkland and Sonny McGuiness begin journeys that soon pit them against each other in a fight for wealth and power.
Here we go, here we go, here we go again. Thirteen years after the podcast that firmly established Siglerism as the 487th-fastest-growing religion in the world, the podcast that created a bloodthirsty army of Junkies, the final “master edition” of this scifi thriller rolls out as a podcast novel all its own. Thrills and chills are our business, and cousin, and for your Future Dark Øverlord, business is a-boomin! It’s time, once again, for death from below.
Today we have an guest! Evan Diamond, band leader for Scott’s band “Evan Diamond & The Library,” joins us at Empty Set Studios to talk about the new EP Intersections, along with a host of other things. We talk songwriting as storytelling, what it’s like to play live and see folks react to your personal moments made musical, and listen to each song from Intersections. Plus a big announcement for those of you going to/considering SiglerFest 2k18!
On this episode, Scott and A revisit Raiders of the Lost Ark. (Spoiler alert: it totally holds up.) We were lucky enough to see the Rooftop Cinema showing, which is rooftop, outdoor viewing with cocktails. It was a really fun addition to the overall experience! If there’s something like this in your town, don’t miss the chance to go! This episode doesn’t have our normal “timestamp discussion” of the movie because of the aforementioned venue change. But since it’s such a classic, I bet that’s ju...more
An episode about the ins and outs of putting on a fan appreciation weekend. We talk through the evolution of SiglerFest and what’s coming this year!
THE LAST JEDI has come under fire for nonsensical plot elements and characters making LOST-esque idiotic decisions, but if we jump in the WayBack Machine™ and take a look at RETURN OF THE JEDI, we find that nonsensical might be endemic to all STAR WARS movies — read also, if there was a “plan” to rescue Han, what the hell was it, and how did it go so wrong?
Scott interviews #1 New York Times bestseller Pierce Brown as Pierce kicks off his world tour for IRON GOLD, volume IV in the Red Rising saga. Recorded live at Mysterious Galaxy Books in San Diego, the exact site of Pierce’s very first appearance as an unknown author in 2014. Pierce talks about his new work, his struggles to get published, and the intense pressure that comes with following up a literary juggernaut.
StorySmack is a podcast about storytelling, but I must admit we talk quite a bit about movies. Today, however, we’re going to talk about a movie maker. In fact, the most Oscar-nominated movie maker on Earth. Actor? Director? Nope — orchestrator and conductor John Williams. I know you love John Williams’ work. I know I love the Star Wars score, and the Indiana Jones score. Those are both his. But so many others you know and love are also John Williams’ work. You’ll be amazed at how much of the sc...more
Hard to believe it’s been twenty years since Good Will Hunting was released! Hard to remember a time when Matt Damon and Ben Affleck were small time enough to be caught in development hell trying to get this movie made. Back before they were Oscar winners. Thankfully they got through all of that, and Good Will Hunting stands the test of time! Join us while we discuss the good, the bad, and the legend that is Good Will Hunting.
Scifi classic, or classic trash? You have your opinion, we have ours, which we share in this lovely recap of an extremely fun and slightly polarizing movie that came out twenty years ago.
In this week’s episode Scott and A discuss the storied screenplay for Chinatown. The movie came out in 1974, and the screenplay has been heralded as near-perfect since then. There is a lot to unpack and discuss about the movie, the script, the crew, and the era of American filmmaking, so jump right in! It’s a lovely movie. A throw-back noir, featuring Jack Nicholson and Faye Dunaway, based on an original screenplay written by Robert Towne. Towne won the Best Original Screenplay Academy Award for...more
We recorded our coverage of this cult classic live at SiglerFest2k17 in Las Vegas. Junkies (the fans of Scott Sigler’s books) got to ask us questions. Also, there were many White Russians, so don’t count on Scott or A to be all that sharp in their responses. Drunken StorySmack is the 300 game of podcasting!
Jerry Before Seinfeld is a look back by one of the most successful comedians in the world. We started watching thinking it would be an hour of comedy, only to find an origin story instead. Scott and A discuss this surprising and charming special.
With 25 episodes under our belt, we dive into the listener mail bag (awwwww yeah) to look at y’all’s suggestions for future installments. We also talk about the difficulty of reviewing books, TV series, why movies are the low-hanging grapes (awwwww yeah), and why Hollywood keeps remaking the same schlock over and over again.
An episode about high school awkwardness, losing virginity, fake IDs, the cops we all wish were real, and drawing dicks.
Straight outta the 80s, ladies & gents. This schloctastic, smörgåsbord of a flick sends us in the Wayback Machine to bad FX, worse hair, even worse plot holes, and pounds and pounds of glorious, tasty cheese. If you’ve seen this gem, listen in to learn some things that you might not know. Gracias to our sponsor “GoDaddy Coupon” who keeps this show free as a bird. Or a warlock.
So we’re a few weeks early on this celebration. Sue us. Keep in mind that I’m just a small-town pizza lawyer, but I know how to defend against egregious lawsuits. This movie stars three-time Oscar winner Daniel Day Lewis and Madeleine Stowe, but the show is completely stolen by Wes Studi. Studi’s portrayal of Magwa is one of my favorite roles of all-time — positively bad-ass. And this flick? Yeah, it’s got lots (and lots) of violence.
This week we have a guest! Author Rob Reid joins us on the release day of his new book After On, to discuss one of his favorite movies — Shallow Grave. First, a bit about Rob’s new title: The definitive novel of today’s Silicon Valley, After On flash-captures our cultural and technological moment with up-to-the-instant savvy. Matters of privacy and government intrusion, post-Tinder romance, nihilistic terrorism, artificial consciousness, synthetic biology, and much more are tackled with authorit...more
The first episode of this ground-breaking series aired on July 19, 2007. A decade later, the FDØ and the Director of Døøm sit down to discuss the cultural impact it had on television and on long-form storytelling.
We sat down to watch SNATCH this week while Scott’s nephews were in town. They’d never seen this awesome crime flick from 2000, and it was pretty interesting to chat with them about it afterward. Listen in to hear the next generation Sigler men share their opinions on shakey-cam fights with their decidedly anti-shakey-cam uncle.
You may be shocked to know that THE FIFTH ELEMENT is 20 years old. That’s two decades of multipass, folks. We break down the storytelling elements (see what I did there) in the Luc Besson-directed classic.
This week we were going to do an ALIENS watch-along. We didn’t get that off the ground. We’ll tell you all about it in the episode. Instead, we’re doing a traditional movie review StorySmack, but for Sigler’s favorite movie of all time. ALL TIME! The thing is … ALIENS is Scott’s favorite, but it’s also a hugely important and influential movie in general. Sigourney Weaver is luminescent in every sense of the word, all the while being a difficult, ornery character, in unfathomable circumstances. I...more
It’s 4/20, the favorite day of every stoner on the planet. At StorySmack, we decided to do a little medical experimentation — why not do an episode about a stoner movie, on 4/20, while on 4/20 ourselves? We feature the Dave Chapelle movie HALF-BAKED for your listening pleasure. A got the giggles. And, yes, munchies were involved after the fact.
This week we’re taking a break from movie breakdowns as we recover from our European jet lag. Everyone’s seen plenty of courtroom dramas, cop stories, and forensic investigation on television and in the movies. So much that our sense of justice and the law is surely informed by what we’ve seen on the screen. And what’s on the screen isn’t always real-world accurate, surrendering dry legal wrangling for entertaining fiction. Scott and A breakdown the degrees of murder as they’re written in Califo...more
The European Tour of 2017 rolls along. We took a few minutes to talk about our feels and impressions from some of the amazing, life-changing things we’ve seen. We also discuss how seeing such things can affect a storyteller’s views, and impact (or create whole cloth) future stories.
Why are we celebrating the random 17th anniversary of GLADIATOR? Because we’re idiots and somehow got it in our head it was 25 years old (a “thank you” to Junkie Shane who pointed out that maybe we need to lay off the sauce for a bit …). Nonetheless, this is a movie that holds up better than most. It’s a lovely, fragile, hard-as-nails movie, full of anger and grace and humanity and morality. It’s an essential movie for anyone who likes fight movies, historical movies, love stories, and even inte...more
This week’s StorySmack has us going back in time to a weird, wonderful Los Angeles, and a sterling example of the buddy cop movie. Lethal Weapon turns 30 this month, and we revisited the original to see how it stands the test of time. And to see Mel Gibson’s enormous hair. Give us a listen and let us know what you think!
Can you believe it? Twenty-five years since WAYNE’S WORLD landed its most-excellent ass in theaters. If that shocks you, you are old!
We’ve got some of our own storytelling afoot, with a few things in the works that ate up every spare moment of this week — so here’s a shorter StorySmack to talk about the fantastic flick JOHN WICK. And hopefully, soon we can tell y’all what’s got us so busy.
Yes, 2016 saw some serious coinage being tossed about Hollywood in a festive manner. But which of those obscenely bloated budgets was the biggest and girthiest? And did those huge expenditures result in equally huge profits? Your FDØ and ARealGirl get into the numbers game on this week’s StorySmack.
This week Scott and A discuss the Resident Evil franchise. We talk about all five movies currently available for at-home viewing, and our experience marathoning them this month. It’s been a wild ride, and we’re excited to go see Resident Evil: The Final Chapter this weekend! Even if you’re not into these games or these movies, the success of these films can’t be ignored. And, honestly, they’re better than you might think at first.
Yes, 2016 generated an all-time high in box office revenue, but when you adjust for inflation how successful was it, really? Is Hollywood heading for a major crash, a-la the music business of the 90s and the publishing biz of the oughts? We cover that in this episode, as well as: What were the Top-10 highest-grossing films of 2016? The influence of Chinese investors and the Chinese government on Hollywood. What year set the record for attendance, not for revenue? Why it’s better to root for the...more
It’s Friday the 13th, so what else would we cover but FRIDAY THE 13TH? The original, people, not a remake, not a reboot, not a sequel, but the carnage-fest that started a billion-dollar franchise. A first-generation slasher film that created many copies, this horror classic is slathered with the blood of horror movie history.
If you haven’t seen Galaxy Quest in all this time since 1999, let’s just say you’re missing out. Or, more correctly, if you’re a fan of this ‘cast, or scifi, or nerdom and you haven’t seen Galaxy Quest … you’re totally missing out. Just trust us, see it.
Happy New Year from the Future Dark Øverlord and the Director of Døøm! And, yes, the Dog of Døøm as well. To celebrate the incoming wonders that 2017 brings, we review the quirky New Year’s Eve anthology comedy known as FOUR ROOMS. Join us for a discussion of Tim Roth‘s masterful physical performance that ties together a shit-show of short films by Quentin Tarantino, Robert Rodriguez, Allison Anders, and Alexandre Rockwell.
In this episode, we get into the muck of one of the world’s greatest, most enduring philosophical questions: is DIE HARD a Christmas movie? We also cover a shit-ton of tidbits, trivia, and facts about this enduring classic, including: Who was supposed to play John Mclane? Is this a sequel to a Sinatra flick? The book (yes, book this movie is based on). Which member of this cast served hard time? Which famous lion tamers were cast as bad guys? Does anyone in this flick actually sprechen Deutsch?...more
We’re off to see ROGUE ONE, and to celebrate, let’s talk Star Wars Smack! Many, many nerds have waxed endlessly how Episode IV: A New Hope (the original 1976 Star Wars flick), and Episode VII, The Force Awakens, are the exact same movie. Professor Sigler and the learned Doctor Kovacs delve deep into this comparison to give you a StorySmack diagnoses.
Scott and A get all mystical and chat about Doctor Strange.
If you’re a regular FridayFix aficionado, you may find this episode disturbing, shocking, and like a bullet to your very heart. Well, that’s overly dramatic, but shit, man, I’m a writer — hyperbole is my business. ARealGirl and I sit down to hash out the future of this ‘cast. Listen in.
Scott and ARealGirl sit down with PC and Kristin Cast, bestselling authors of the HOUSE OF NIGHT series. How bestselling? How about 20 meelion books sold and counting? We cover how this mother/daughter pair operate as a writing team, their new book THE SMELL OF SALT AND SAND, PC’s new novel MOON CHOSEN, how both authors got signed and rose to fame, and much more!
If you’ve followed the ‘cast for the past few years, you may have heard ARealGirl or our audio producer Iceberg talk about how I curse up a storm of frustration while in the recording booth. Recording the audiobook is the final stage of editing for us. When you read things out loud, they often sound different from how they read on a printed page. So you think you’ve written one thing, but when you read it out loud, you realize it’s not at all what you meant. While it’s a fantastic method for str...more
Actual answers below (hit “Continue Reading”): The second installment of this hard-hitting, Pulitzer-worthy show that has lots of newsiness baked right inside. I get asked five questions and give definitive answers, even if I have no idea what the actual answer is. Here’s another fun interview we did at DragonCon 2015, with Paul Sabourin and Greg “Storm” DiConstanzo, a.k.a. the comedy music duo “Paul & Storm.” These talented cats are wading neck-deep in nerd culture, having co-created the w00tstock tour and regularly performing with Jonathan Coulton, Adam Savage, Wil Wheaton and more. Want to hear how a couple of guys built a career as full-time entertainers? Listen in, sirs and/or ma’ams. PAUL & STORM’S SOCIAL MEDIA Facebook page Twitter
We make with the funny and try a new bit — the Director of Doom asks me five random questions and I give answers (whether I know what the hell is going on or not). Also in this video, please help me pick out my new Warby Parker frames by picking 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 in the comments! Click here to download the episode.
ALIVE is over! Long live ALIGHT! This is the sneak-peek of ALIGHT, Book II of the Generations Trilogy and the sequel to ALIVE. It’s out April 5, 2016, but we have this clip of Scott reading it from SiglerFest 2015 last month.
A Q&A about ALIVE, with questions submitted by fans from all over the world. Well over an hour, lots of interesting tidbits about ALIVE, the Generations Trilogy, my writing style, other books, and more.
All the suffering, all the work, all the heartache — it all comes down to this final episode. In the final episode, Em and the Birthday Children face life and death, freedom … or eternal imprisonment.
The Birthday Children fought the Grownups, and now Em has taken Matilda captive. She is forcing Matilda to reveal the location of the shuttle, the only way to escape the Xolotl. In this, the second-to-last episode of this serialized Audiobook, Em and her friends find out if there is a way to escape, or if they will be trapped here forever.
Em has had enough. No more being hunted, no more threats of being erased. She has rallied the Birthday Children to march on the Garden, ready to attack the Grownups on sight. She is going to find her people a way out of the Xolotl, and by Tlaloc, she will not let anyone or anything stop her.
In the last episode, Em discovered her true purpose in life — to be a receptacle for a much older version of herself, a 1,000-year-old monster that created Em to be overwritten. Em refuses to be a victim, and she refuses to be erased. In this episode, she must rally the Birthday Children to face this horrifying reality, and prepare to fight back.
In the last episode, Em found out the true nature of the inescapable dungeon that has held her and the Birthday Children. Brewer — the Grownup who claims Em murdered him — revealed this shocking information, leaving Em stunned beyond comprehension. Now, Em and the others try to come to grips with a shattering new reality.
In a quest to find a weapon that can defeat the monsters who took Bello, Em has led her friends to a place that Bishop and Gaston discovered earlier — the place where Bishop found the spear. Those three, along with Aramovsky and El-Saffani, opened a strange door in the floor and are descending down a long ladder, into the darkness, into the unknown.
The Birthday Children wound up right back where they started. While some wonder if supernatural forces are involved, Em chooses to focus on what she can actually control — finding a weapon that will help her people defeat the Grownups. That new pursuit is about to lead her down a nightmare path that will make everything she has seen thus far seem innocent by comparison.
Somehow, the Birthday Children have wound up exactly where they started. In front of Em, a mystery — the coffin room she and her friends woke up in, the same room they walked away from. How can they be back? And is there any chance for escape?
A rest, a brief peace, a critical break from the never ending stress — all of that evaporated in the last episode when something grabbed Bello and dragged her into the Garden’s underbrush. Now, Em must react — but can she save her friend?
The Birthday Children have reached the Garden, but at such a cost. In this episode, the tension between Em and Aramovsky comes to a head. Is Aramovsky looking out for the spiritual well-being of the group, or is he trying to discredit Em as leader and push her out?
After discovering food and water in the Garden, it should have been a happy occasion for Em and the kids. But then, tragedy befell Latu, and Em was the first to see what happens when people are left alone with hungry pigs. So this won’t happen to anyone else, Em and Bishop are in a race against time to get the rest of their people and bring them safely to the Garden.
Em and the others were shocked to run into a pig. Desperate for food, the kids made the instant decision to kill it, but it escaped, biting Latu in the shoulder and badly wounding her as it did. Against Em’s orders, Bishop ran after the pig, leaving Em no choice but to follow him. They tracked the wounded animal to a room with something the kids have never seen before — plants, a dense thicket wall. The pig’s blood trail leads through a shallow tunnel gnawed through that thicket, so that’s where...more
Em has led the Birthday Children into a strange, broken-down area filled with coffins of a different kind — thin, white, heavily beat-up, and empty. Em, O’Malley, and Latu are looking in one set of rooms, Bishop and El-Saffani in the others. What they all find next will change their existence forever.
Em and her friends met Bishop and his crew. A brief, peaceful struggle for control of the Birthday Children left Em with the spear, a symbol of power. She now leads 23 other people through the halls, looking for a way out. They are also looking for food, and, more importantly, water. If they don’t find sustenance soon, Em knows her people will die.
As the group struggles to deal with the fallout from Yong’s attack, they hear the first evidence that they are not alone — the sound of heavy footsteps marching in time. That sound is drawing closer. Will Em and the others finally find out why they’ve been put in this strange dungeon?
In the last episode, Yong grew tired of wandering through hallways, finding nothing, and he challenged Em’s leadership. He attacked Spingate, then rushed at Em — and when he did, Em’s knife slid deep into his belly. In this episode, we learn of Yong’s fate: will he survive, or will he become just another pile of dust-covered bones?
Em, Spingate, O’Malley, Belo, Yong, and Aramovsky are trying to come to grips with their desperate situation. They woke up in coffins. Six other coffins in the same room contained shriveled corpses. Why? Who were those dead kids? What is this strange, dust-covered room? In the last episode, they finally managed to open the heavy stone doors that kept them trapped inside. Now, for the first time, they leave their room and set out to find answers.
Em and Spingate have escaped their coffins, and managed to open two more — one holds the sleeping K. O’Malley, while the other contains the dead body of B. Brewer. Eight more coffins remain unopened. In this episode, Em and Spingate find out how many coffins contain potential friends and allies, and how many contain shriveled corpses.
M. Savage woke to a nightmare — trapped in a coffin, alone, unable to remember anything about her past. She fought her way free only to find herself in a room full of coffins. One of those coffins contained another girl, trapped just like her. In this episode, the blood-streaked pair try to make some sense of their situation.
This is the first episode of ALIVE, the serialized audiobook version of the hardcover/eBook/full-length-audiobook that will be out July 14 from Del Rey Books. This is Scott’s sixteenth free, unabridged podcast novel. This one is narrated by Emma Galvin. We hope you enjoy it, and spread the word!
Of all the questions Scott gets asked over and over, at every con, every book reading, and every day by DM or Facebook message or email … among the most frequent is “What advice do you have for me? How do I become a writer?” In this video, he tells you how he did it. Anyone can write a novel. Didn’t go to college to learn literature, etc? Doesn’t matter. Your idea is just as valid as anyone else’s. Scott will tell you how to write your first novel.
Author of Red Rising trilogy talks writing process, screenplays, Hollywood, and being an "overnight success" Pierce Brown’s first novel RED RISING was a smash hit. While touring to support GOLDEN SON, the second book in that series, Pierce visited the Empty Set studios to talk about his books, his career, and to answer questions sent in by his fans. Scott already reviewed the book, but with Pierce in town, we wanted to jibber-jab to entertain your faces. If you’re a creative type, this is a grea...more
We’re coming at you a bit early in the week for the FridayFix™, but we’ve got important things and stuff to discuss! In 2015, our convention schedule will switch up a bit, as we will be participating in Phoenix ComicCon this year! They have a great literary track, and after meeting Lee Whiteside at San Diego Comic Con last year, we’re going to check it out. And we’re pretty excited. That means we will not be at Balticon this year. Those cons are a week apart, and it only makes sense time-wise an...more
It’s the holidays, suckas! And with it comes year’s end, and with that comes our annual rambling-ass Year In Review. The two gasbag partners in Empty Set Entertainment combined to bring you an hour and twenty minutes of blabby-blab about the books we published, the tours we toured and the anthologies we anthologized — and also the new addition to the fam, our lovely little Dog of Døøm. Did we mention how long this episode is? Listen at your own risk. And, we did our top-four stories of 2014 as a...more
It’s the holidays, and that means family and what-not. It also means things popping up out of nowhere like schedule-destroying demons, hell-bent on ruining all yer carefully crafted plans. Yep, happens to us like it happens to everyone else, so how do we handle that? My lifelong buddy Rob Otto. We were born on the same day, same year, so — obviously — we’re twins! How about you, Junkies? What kind of things popped up during your holiday season to scuttle your schedules?
Been poking around the Empty Set store this Black Friday? If you have, and you’re looking for swank GFL t-shirts, you might notice our selections are dwindling. We’ve had a few emails and comments lately about how there are slim pickings in the store as far as t-shirt sizes go, and I don’t disagree. That said, several folks notice that there are only smalls and mediums of some t-shirts, and think we’re discriminating against folks of a different size. That’s where I disagree of course. Take a...more
This is ARealGirl, and we’re back with another round with Evo Terra, founder of Podiobooks.com, and Sheila Dee, author of THE ROOKIE Curriculum Guide. They helped get another show pre-recorded so I’d have time to recover. How’s my tonsillectomy recovery going? Well … slowly, I guess. Seems I’m doing fine, and I mostly feel okay. That is, until I have to swallow. For any reason. That stinks all the stink. But otherwise things are good. Today I even ate solid food for the first time since last Thu...more
On this week’s FridayFix we’re lucky to have our good friends Evo Terra and Sheila Dee join us. They came to San Diego for a visit, and sat down to talk irrational fears. Why, you ask? This was recorded last weekend, and yesterday I had a tonsillectomy. It went well, straightforward with no complications, but back on Saturday night, I didn’t know all of that. I just knew I was scared with some reasonable fears, and some … less so. So listen first, then cheer me up by telling me about yourirratio...more
We polled and we pondered. We discussed at the Office of Doom. And we’ve decided which designs we’re moving forward with, even if not all of them will make it to an actual t-shirt. We’re in a terrific spot: so many good ideas, we’ve got to see art on more than expected! Right now, we’ll print a new Krakens t-shirt, plus one each of the non-Krakens designs and the non-GFL designs. Which ones? Sorry, you’ll have to listen to the ‘cast. Don’t worry, it’s only ten minutes long! Ten minutes!
It’s time for new T-shirts! Who gets to choose what we make? Youget to choose! Well, you get to help, anyway. Listen in to this awesome cast (there is slurping) and then pick your picks from the handy polls below. Where did we get these suggestions? From the comments in THE CHAMPION Episode #3. See how it pays to listen every week, Suckas? T-shirts for Junkies, chosen by Junkies!

As we speed toward the release date for THE CHAMPION, a little information for any Junkies who want to join Hell Week in San Diego. Technically it’s Hell Weekend, and it does tend to be a lot of fun. We’re looking for folks who are willing to join us 9am to 5pm on Friday, October 3 and Saturday, October 4, in San Diego. You don’t have to work all day, silly, but do have to be available for at least three hours in a row. You need to be able to commit to at least a three-hour shift There will be...more
A quick Friday Fix to say if you are thinking of coming to SiglerFest, you have to book your hotel by end of day this coming Monday, September 8th, to get the group rate on your room! Our room block is sold out, so you must call the Guest Reservations number at (800) 675-3267 and identify yourself as part of the group SiglerFest. If you’re not yet thinking about coming to SiglerFest, why not? There are games, readings, bowling, karaoke, beers, Krakens, movies, friends and more. It’s really the...more
My friend PG Holyfield died last night. Oy, that’s a helluva lead, isn’t it? Back in journalism school, they taught me that the lead has to grab the reader’s attention. For that purpose, I think what I wrote above is ideal. I hope I never have to write one like it again. I know that I will. That knowledge sucks. So a sad day, to say the least. Author, podcaster, all-around-great-guy PG is no longer with us. If you know of him, I’m sure you’re sad. I know I am. So to defray that sadness, I offer ...more
Happy Friday everybody! Earlier this month there was a scavenger hunt on the internet that had nothing to do with us — until it did. GISHWHES stands for (The) Greatest International Scavenger Hunt (the) World Has Ever Seen, and the 2014 list of things to scavenge included this: “VIDEO: A NYT best-selling author or Tony-award winning actor or actress doing a dramatic reading of a section of this: http://apps.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/hdbk/right_of_way.htm” Although Scott was rudely ignored during this year...more
As Scott is busy furiously packing up Empty Set Studios North, we stole a few moments to record another edition of Inside Empty Set, where we talk about things pertinent to the business side of our business. This one’s all about convention season: which ones we’ll be attending and why. Also some dissection of Scott’s past strategy vs. our current plan. This year we’ll attend: Balticon, San Diego Comic Con, Dragon*Con, SiglerFest & ReadCon in Greeley, CO. Want to hear us talk about something in p...more
We’re back with another edition of Inside Empty Set, where we talk about things pertinent to the business side of our business. Big news today: Sigler is moving to San Diego! That’s right, the Future Dark Øverlord is moving to America’s Finest City, and Empty Set Entertainment will coalesce into one shiny office! This audio was recorded the day before we found new office space, so there’s still some “maybe” in the discussion. As of today, the ink is dry and the move is set. Listen to hear all th...more
This is a terrific, full-cast, live reading of “Chuckles Mulrooney, Attorney for the Damned.” It was recording at the New Media Expo in Las Vegas in January 2014, and was engineered and mastered by Bryan Lincoln. Renee Chambliss did the cajoling and organizing on behalf of NMX to select the right story, and they assembled the perfect cast to bring it to life! Big thanks to both, and we hope you enjoy it! The Killer Cast: Narrator – Renee Chambliss Victor – Johnny Feisty Morty – Scott Sigler Sata...more
The anthology GAMES CREATURES PLAY is out today, April 1 — Sigler Ascension Day! To celebrate the release of this girthy tome, Scott interviews the book’s editors: Charlaine Harris and Toni L.P. Kelner. Together, this duo has edited seven anthologies. Toni is an Agatha Award-winning mystery author, and Charlaine is perhaps best known as the author of the Sookie Stackhouse series, upon which the HBO show TRUE BLOOD is based. The trio of authors discuss the GAMES anthology, as well as the challeng...more
We received a good bit of feedback after our post-PANDEMIC tour discussion, saying it was nice to see “behind the curtain” a little. As we always aim to please, we’re planning to chat about the ins and outs of Empty Set about once a month, as the schedule allows. In this first episode we talk a bunch about Scott’s oppressive deadlines, and more about Snoop Dogg than you’d imagine, or I would have liked. But there you go. If there’s a particular thing you’d love to hear more about on our next epi...more
This week’s Friday Fix is a hybrid — it’s also about one of our advertisers. We’ve recently started using Transporter private cloud storage as our primary storage for all the audiobooks, podcasts and video that Scott’s created over the last nine years. Scott and I chat about the pros and cons for us, and some early pitfalls Scott experienced in trying to back up 800gb of data. (That, my friends, is officially a lot of data.) We’ve had a handful of questions from some of our creative friends, so ...more
Even though in our heart of hearts we like to think everyone’s a Krakens fan … we know some of you have been dying to get your mitts on an Orbiting Death jersey. And now, dear Junkies, the wait is over! Watch the video to see the jersey in all it’s black and red glory! Also, a little last minute detail about tomorrow’s launch for GFL Book V.
Thirteen minutes, and on Thursday, but full of good info about how the PANDEMIC Tour went and how to be ready for the GFL pre-order! A couple of weeks back we did a little podcast about how we went about booking the PANDEMIC Tour. Today we’re bringing you a short sweet little wrap up recorded this week just as Scott was heading home at the end of a successful tour. We also talk a bit about the big GFL pre-order event coming this Saturday! Ready or not, it’s almost here!
If you’ve ever wondered what it takes to get Scott out on the road for a book tour, this FridayFix is for you. Listen to learn everything you ever need to know about the PANDEMIC Tour, but also for tips, tricks and guidelines in case you ever want to book your own tour. We do things a little more punk-rock style than the Big 6, as you might imagine. If you want to RSVP for next week’s events? Details in the side bar for the PANDEMIC tour.
Our annual Year In Review tradition continues! If you’ve never heard our rambling year end recaps, be forewarned: it’s a hour-long schmooze fest where Scott and I recount the year, talking business behind-the-scenes, cool projects, and this year … a big announcement at the end! SHOW NOTES: Thanks to Matt Murray at Filament72 for the sweet new websites. Big love to Alex White for the lovely engaging Empty Set logo. PANDEMIC, the conclusion to the INFECTED series, comes out January 21st! There’s...more
‘Scuse me while I whips dis out! It’s the very first hardcover copy of PANDEMIC! I share the opening with all y’all. Also, a little news on FLIER, and some humble-bragging about getting to hang out on the set of one of my favorite TV shows. Click here to download the video.
The Prawatt Jihad strikes terror into the hearts of sentients all over the galaxy. This race of intelligent, self-replicating machines is shrouded in fear, mystery and mistrust, yet at the center of it all is the “living god” known as Petra Prawatt — a human girl. What is her story? How did she become the focal point of the galaxy’s most-populous — and most-warlike — race? Find out in “Complex God,” a novelette in the anthology ROBOT UPRISINGS, due out April 8, 2014 (but them pre-order links be ...more
It’s Black Friday, or as we like to call it around the Empty Set Lair … Orange and Black Friday. Gooooooo KRAKENS! We celebrate our home-team fervor by: Opening a brand new online store! Having a 25% off Physical Merchandise sale! Putting THE STARTER hardcover on sale at 50% off! That’s right, a hardcover copy of THE STARTER for only $14.95! I don’t know what the hell Scott Zoolander is doing here, but he seems quite into it. But wait, there’s more! Even if you already have all our books a...more
Good news Junkies, the PANDEMIC tour is booked! We’ve got the tour dates for the PANDEMIC University Tour to promote Scott’s next novel, the conclusion to the INFECTED trilogy. Now, I know many of you will be sad to see that your town isn’t listed, and while I can appreciate that, I can’t do anything about it. There are three factors that determine the tour route, all reasonably equally important. Scott’s paying for this whole tour out of his own pocket, so that Crown can focus the marketing m...more
The Hunterson’s new home is invaded by a pot-smoking Deadhead wizard, but what else would you expect from a paranormal San Francisco? Hunter’s family has to deal with the previous residents of his new mansion, while Hunter also has to deal with his deadbeat son — who might or might not actually be a demon that spends way too much time shopping on Amazon.
Your favorite monster-hunting family returns for a new tale of rootin’-tootin’ supernatural mischief. As Hunter and his family settle into their new digs in San Francisco, they find out that their new mansion holds far more surprises than they would like.
We love our Junkies, and the Junkies love us, and this is all good and fine and makes Scott’s tingly bits all the more tingly, but here’s something that is just deliciously cool: Junkie Rebecca Procknow getting Scott’s signature tatted up on her shoulder foreva and eva. It’s quite awesome. Check out this short video to see the delight that is Siglerism. We are in Las Vegas at SiglerFest and having a ball! Wish y’all were here. Click here to download the video.
This is one of Scott’s favorite stories. “Bag Man” examines the concept of “judge not, lest ye yourself be judged” from the perspective of the media vultures that celebrate and profit from death and misery. When that camera turns the other way — and the “camera” is a supernatural killer — the news isn’t quite as much fun.
At SiglerFest2k12, there were zombies. Seriously. Sort of. The Sigler fans, a.k.a. the “Junkies,” got armed and took care of business. Die, you paper zombies, DIE! Shot (see what I did there?) at the Las Vegas Machine Gun Experience. Hey, Junkies, see yourself in this video? Sound off in the comments. Click here to download the video. Want to join us for SiglerFest2k13, October 10 & 11 in Las Vegas? Check out our SiglerFest page.
This week’s tale comes from the GFL era of the Siglerverse, but a deeper, darker, more dangerous corner. If the victors write the history books, this is a story about what happens when history’s losers learn their own off-book version of things. Just two more stories in BONES ARE WHITE after this week one-parter. Enjoy!
And now the conclusion of our military-sf novella PASSENGER. Marcus Crowley was shot through the heart (and you’re to blame, amiright?) and thought he was a gonner, but awakens to find himself not only alive, but on the move — and he’s not the one controlling his own motions.
What’s three feet long and took sixty man-hours to make? Junkie Kelly McArdle‘s Lego version of the P.U.V. James Keeling. Check out this fun time-lapse video showing the construction of a plastic behemoth. If you haven’t heard THE CRYPT, you’re missing out. It is a Siglerverse story that launches its own era of military-scifi in the vein of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA and WRATH OF KAHN. Want to listen? Then click here and get it for free. THE CRYPT is my quest to have my own “ship,” something as iconic...more
Our CRYPT-era tale continues with Part 2 of the novella “Passenger. Our recon team crash-landed on Vee-Seven just before SAM fire tore into their troop carrier. Duck is dead. Chesque and Nguyen are MIA. Jennings has lost a leg and is screaming for help. Sgt. Marcus Crowley tries to keep the survivors together. Can Cheryl and Psycho stay alive long enough to help him complete the mission?
We bring you a tale from THE CRYPT era of the Siglerverse, and a big Junkies favorite — particularly the rather grisly end of the story. We re-wrote the story to bring it into line with THE CRYPT timeline and political structure. I had some great consulting on this one from Junkies who served in the US Military, for which I am grateful.
For those that grew up with MTV and love the ridiculousness of “Cribs,” we give you a look at the new Lair of Doom, all MTV-style. Author, or international super-producer? You be the judge. And man, you should have seen this place when we moved in. Broken windows, black walls, floor boards rotted out, and don’t even ask what the kitchen looked like. We fixed it up, and now Dark Øverlord North never looked so good. Click here to download the video.
We present the conclusion to the novella “Eusocial Networking,” a story set in the 7th SON universe of J.C. Hutchins. The bug-infested finale will have you wondering just how harmless those little critters really are …
Welcome to a new novella. This time out, EUSOCIAL NETWORKING, a story set in the 7th SON universe of J.C. Hutchins. If you like bugs you’ll love this (and if you hate them, it will scare your undergarments right off).
The Rabbi and Big Ugly haven’t yet made it out from under their obligation to Chad LaTilton, after the President wound up dead. After visiting Carnie, and getting info from Meth Cow, they’re off to find The Magician. And Brock Sockman doesn’t like it one bit. Not one little bit. The last installment of our non-Siglerverse tale featuring the voice work of Justin Robert Young (@JustinRYoung).
Hello Junkies! This week’s FridayFix™ is all about SiglerFest! lWe’re working on plans for this year’s event (October 11 & 12, 2013 in Las Vegas, NV at The Orleans, no matter what I say at the beginning of this video!) but this video is jammed full of cool photos for SiglerFest 2K12, taken by our good friend Bruce Press. Bruce is also putting the finishing touches on a photo book with all the delectable photos from last year AND he’s got a ton of great shots over on his website. Seriously, if yo...more
The second installment of our non-Siglerverse tale featuring the voice work of Justin Robert Young (@JustinRYoung on the Twitters). In the first episode, the Rabbi and Big Ugly were supposed to find the President and bring his money back to Chad LaTilton, only before our heroes could complete this task, the President wound up dead. Now Rabbi and Big Ugly are on the hook for that cash — they have to find a lady named “Carnie” who might have a clue as to the money’s wherabouts. Listen in for more ...more
A new story and a rare foray into scifi/noir/comedy. Join Rabbi and Big Ugly as they stumble into quite a bit of trouble up on New Hoboken Station. Just hope you don’t wind up with a pile of pomeranian poo on your forehead. Voice talent for this story is Justin Robert Young, co-host of the amazing NSFW show along with Brian Brushwood. This is a very funny show, y’all should check it out.
Yes, this is an audio post to invite y’all to visit the Flickr photoset of all the Siglerverse tattoos to date! I’m crazy like that. I love my empty set tattoo: it’s geeky and scientific on it’s own, but also personally very meaningful and important to me. As the best tattoos are. Which is why folks that choose the Siglerverse as the starting place for their body art are super cool in our book. Scott’s always blown away by someone loving something in one of the stories enough to permanently ink ...more
The second half of our short story about deals with the devil, horror writing, clowns and seedy deeds done in the soup aisle of a Meijer grocery store.
Stop the presses! We’re doing something new this episode, and that is using voice talent other than Scott to bring you your weekly story. This is a story many of you have heard before, but re-written to prepare it for the BONES ARE WHITE collection. The voice talent is Alec Volz, a very cool cat with a very cool voice. He’s also a fan who loves NOCTURNAL, so he clearly has skill and great taste.
THE MVP is in our rear-view mirror, and now it’s time for a brand-new podcast title. Here it is, folks, the free serialization of our short story collection BONES ARE WHITE. The eBook is available for purchase, but you’re getting the podcast even before the audiobook is in stores. Our first episode features the first new Kissyman audio story in over three years. It’s a short-but-sweet tale of Kissyman’s tender side. Sometimes a hard man is good to find — when that hard man finds you, not so much...more
Today’s FridayFix™ is video from our GFL booth at the National Education Association Expo in Atlanta, GA, held in July, 2013. Boom! Our booth rocked, thanks to the artistic stylings of Scott E. Pond and the organizational mastery of one Director of Døøm (ARealGirl herself). We talked to thousands of teachers and librarians from all over the country. Download this video by clicking here.
Awwwwwwww, snap! Your friendly neighborhood FDØ models the all-new GFL team T-shirts. Get some of that luscious goodness from the Ice Storm, the Elite, the Stalkers and the Criminals. Also: a rare glimpse of my Fu (left over from the Wings Playoff Beard). Click here to download the FridayFix.
The short version: All existing preorders for THE ALL-PRO and THE MVP will be cancelled any minute now because we’re switching distributors. A new preorder for each book will be up in the next couple of weeks. I’m sorry about the extra work, and do hope you’ll come back and preorder again! The silver lining here that the books will come out a month sooner, on September 3, 2013. The long version: Back in 2011 we partnered with Diversion Books, a publisher, and Perseus, a distributor, to put THE R...more
There was voting, and ballot stuffing, and lots of awesome design suggestions, and some fine tuning tweaks, all leading up to the t-shirts now available for sale! First things first: last week when I posted the two “Keep Calm and Run the Plays that I Call” options, I neglected to credit Belladonna420 with the cool idea. An oversight on my part I’m correcting now — THANKS BELLA! As for the “Keep Calm” version voting, the black T won hands-down. We’re going to stock that version in our store. How...more
This week’s FridayFix™ has NEW FICTION! That’s right Junkies! Little-heard, new fiction that Scott read at Dragon*Con 2012. This fun little story will be in the eBook-only short story collection FIRE IS ORANGE, out later this year. If you didn’t make it to D*C (or even if you did) and you have some feedback, you can reach us at 206-666-4673. That’s 206-666-GORE. Have at ‘im! At right is a picture of Scott at Dragon*Con 2012, licking a stegosaurus. I don’t know why he was licking a stegosaurus....more

If you want to join the fun, you can call the Goreline yourself at 206-666-4673. That’s 206-666-GORE. Call and ask Scott anything you like, or harass him about Mt. Fitzroy. Happy new year Junkies!
As has become our tradition here at Dark Øverlord Media, Scott and I sat down in December to chat about the year gone by … the year ahead … the upcoming SuperBowl Saturday sales event … I won’t lie, Junkies, as ever, it’s been a big year for us. And a big year ahead. Makes me tired just thinking about it. Two tours, five stories published, the second annual SiglerFest, Baby McButter as a cake … just so many great things. I swear we don’t ramble. Kinda. We shout out one meeelion people here, as ...more
Your friendly neighborhood FDØ here, Junkies. If there’s one question ARealGirl and I get at every con, it’s “how do I get an ‘A’?” In case you don’t know A Kovacs, she’s the human superpower that keeps the Dark Øverlord machine going. While I toil at the keyboard and the mic creating stories, she’s the person making sure we have a schedule, managing the book-design and book-printing process, managing our contractors, managing inventory of our books and making sure the books get to you, managing...more
Well hello there, Mister/Miss big-time TV producer Junkie. What? You’re not in the biz? Well you can be if you help NOCTURNAL win the 2012 Goodreads Choice awards. I recorded a little message so the audio would go out in the feed, just in case my shameless pimping missed those who don’t visit here (or use Twitter, or Facebook, or G+ …). If you haven’t voted for NOCTURNAL in the 2012 Goodreads Choice awared, click here to do so right now! Your vote must be in by Nov. 26. You may have to create ...more
My buddy A.J. Colucci wrote this kick-ass horror/thriller called THE COLONY. I’ve been blabbing about it on the Twitters and the Facebooks for awhile now, and the book came out Tuesday. I’ve never met A.J. in person. I only know her through this novel, which my agent, Byrd Leavell, asked me to blurb. I fell in love with the book, probably because it has a similar structure to my stuff, and you all already know what narcissist I am. I also saw a couple of things in the book that needed tweaks. Pl...more
Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz are hot stuff in the world of genre movies. The pair wrote the screenplays for THOR and X-MEN: FIRST CLASS, as well as having written for the shows FRINGE, ANDROMEDA and the TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES. Scott interviews these delightful chaps about their new YA novel COLIN FISCHER. The conversation also delves into the subtleties of writing fiction as opposed to writing screenplays, and what it’s like to be the sole focal point of a book marketing campai...more
Hi, Junkies, ARealGirl here to announce another new Dark Øverlord product. Finally! THE DETECTIVE is the second GFL novella, and it is now available in all formats for all eReaders by clicking right here (Kindle and Nook included). Just $3.99, this story covers Frederico Esteban Guissepe Gonzaga’s search for the family of Quentin Barnes. We’ve posted it at Amazon.com for Kindle, Barnes & Noble for Nook (but we have no control over when they process the book for sale — we’ve done our part, now we...more
During the East Coast Tour, the FDØ and I rolled on through New York City. Not only did I show His Evilness™ some of the sights from my old stomping grounds (that’s right, I’m a New York Irish girl), but we also were invited to be guests on the fantastic Keith & The Girl Show. This award-winning, daily comedy show is one of the first-ever podcasts, and continues to be one of the most popular. Keith and Chemda are always awesome to hang out with. So, Junkies, here’s the hour-long show! I am busy ...more
It’s the final episode of BLOOD IS RED. We delivered eight disturbing short stories in eleven installments, all meant to make you pee your pants just a little. “Sacred Cow” is a Siglerism classic, re-edited and re-recorded just for your face. This is the story that Earl Newton turned into a short film. Now be a good Junkie and listen to the story first, then you can go watch the movie here. The movie stars YouTube sensation Toby Turner (only about a million people watch him every week, but it’s ...more
The re-written, re-recorded first chapter of MT. FITZROY, the sequel to EARTHCORE. And if you listen all the way through to the end of the episode, you might … I repeat, might … hear when this friggin’ long-awaited sequel will finally be available for your Junkie face.
What’s that? Chicago is on the chopping block for PANDEMIC? Check out the great crowd we had in the Windy City, where I not only entertained fans of Da Bears but also did a walk-through of PANDEMIC’s “path of destruction.” You can see a couple of places where the action will go down in this third and final book in the INFECTED trilogy, due out Fall of 2013 from Crown Publishing. Click here to download the video.
We drove through torrential rains to reach Pittsburgh and entertain dozens (and dozens) of happy Junkies. There was an infected child (with triangles), Steelers fans (sorry about that) and bathroom graffiti. Check out that GoDaddy coupon code 599scott, which gets you a new domain for just $5.99 (good for September, 2012 only). Click here to download video.
“Whose house?” “OUR HOUSE!” A big celebration of all things Dark Øverlord as we visited our East Coast office in Bethlehem, PA, and had a reading/shindig/party afterward. Thanks to Donna Mugavero, the Diva øf Design for opening up her office to a heapin’ helpin’ of Junkies who came from New Jersey, all over Pennsylvania and even Ohio for the event. We even had a star sighting: musician George Hrab stopped by for the festivities. Click here to download the video. The tour is sponsored by the G...more
Our fourth stop of the Sigler East Coast Tour took us to NYC, where we had some fun with the Keith & The Girl podcast (Keith also announces his undying love for the Orbiting Death in this video, in proper fashion: loud and offensive). Click here to download the video.
NFL security operatives Lawrence Cutter and Luke Moore have learned there is more to top prospective draft pick Eugene Patterson then trophies, headlines and smiles. What he finds might mean more than a scandal report on ESPN — it might mean his life.
The FDØ invades DC and eyes up which embassies will soon fall to his evil ways. Also, ARealGirl comes up with a great idea on how to “improve” the Lincoln Memorial. Five minutes of fun from the East Coast Tour. Click here to download the video.
Here’s video of our second stop on the tour, Chapel Hill, NC at Chapel Hill Comics. There was a hell hound. It was awesome, and also well-behaved. Big props to Mur Lafferty for helping us hook this up. We love her, so we’ll kill her last. Click here to download the video.
We’re on the road, Junkies! Here’s some sweet, sweet video of our first tour stop at Dragon*Con in Atlanta. See the full tour agenda at scottsigler.com/tour. Click here to download the video.
In honor of the start of the NFL season, we not only have THE MVP landing on your doorsteps, but also we present a football-centric favorite among the Junkies, the short story “Number One With A Bullet.” If you’ve never heard of the pitter Patterson of little feet before, we think you’re in for a treat.
ARealGirl and the FDØ recently did a “Books & Beer” vidcast to discuss the realities of being an author in the digital age. Crack open a brew, watch, and enjoy. Also, Evo and Jeff from Books & Beer are trying to lock up a pair of panels at South by Southwest (SXSW). Give ’em some Junkie love by taking two minutes to click here, read what they want you to do, and then voting. And, yeah, Evo is the man behind Podiobooks.com, which gives you all of Scott’s stories for free, so we’d love to help him...more
Wave that checkered flag! Here it is, Junkies, the final vid of our wee little documentary of packing your copies of THE MVP. The Post Office trucks came today to snag your books, so as of about 10am Pacific Time on August 27, 2012, the book missiles are in the air! There are a ton of Junkies in this vid, so check out some of your peeps. Also, Scott yells at a person. He is a meanie. Click here to download the video.
Nature abhors a vacuum. Still. This is part two, wrapping up the story started last week. Also doing some final wrap-up work today on Shipping Hell Week for THE MVP. Although, it’s not really a week anymore. And with two dozen or more Junkies coming to help … not really hellish either.
A whole mess of Junkies came in to help with Day 3 shipping. Much fun was had. No goats were sacrificed. Click here to download the video.
The last day of just ARealGirl and I before the Junkies show up to help. This video has giant bronze booties, wrestling burritos, and a surprise appearance by Rocky Balboa. Oh, and some Bush. Click here to download the video.
ARealGirl and the FDØ knocked out one pallet of books as they kick off Day 1 of Hell Week. Three more pallets to go. That’s just unboxing, signing, numbering and stacking, folks — still have to do personalization. Junkie Volunteers show up on Day 3. We are looking forward to it! However, don’t count on “Hell Week: The Musical” to be finished in time to regail them with the dulcet tones of Scott “Cabaret” Sigler. Click here to download video.
Nature abhors a vacuum. I love this phrase (despite the fact that is is a personification of an abstract concept — there is no “Gaia,” I tell you). But where there are available resources, there is often life, and cities are teeming with available resources. They are also rife with shelter from the elements and places to hide, if an animal is smart enough to use them. This is one of my favorite stories. I first podcast this back in 2007 for the Dawn & Drew show, one of the first podcasts to dev...more
Sha-ka-paaoww! Book IV of the GFL series is almost loaded into the power-canons and ready to fire across the globe. The book missiles will strike you in the face! What? You haven’t pre-ordered your copy of THE MVP yet? Don’t come a-cryin’ to me in October that you didn’t get one, because you have been duly warned that this is the biggest pre-order yet. Click here to get yours. Click here to download the video.
A dark-dark-dark story from your Future Dark Øverlord. Did I mention “dark?” Some old-school, blood-drenched scifi to make your Sunday better. And we’ve got some New Junkie Shout-Outs for ya!
Hi Junkies, it’s A here this week, picking my favorite Sigler story to share for Sunday content. I know y’all have likely heard this story in one of it’s earlier iteration on this site. It’s been around a while, and was part of the original Bloodcast, Season 1. Even so, I think it’s worth another listen. Rewritten for BLOOD IS RED, re-recorded as well, it shines even more as a sad cautionary tale.
Hunter Hunterson and his son Bo are thrown into a heated conflict with a demon Oni, a man that is either a white-haired sorcerer or an aging Grateful Dead fan (or possibly both), and a meth-addicted, bail-skipping vampire (who just happened to be a high school basketball teammate of Bo). Time to bust out the enchanted silver knuckles known as “Old Glory” and lay a whoopin’ down on the forces of evil.
Scott ran into author David Brin at ComicCon 2012, and David agreed to come on the show to talk about his new science fiction novel EXISTENCE. They talk about that and a whole lot more. Brin has bagged the Hugo, the Nebula, the Locus and the Campbell awards, so in short he has totally whooped up on the field of science fiction. • Check out David’s website • Follow David on Twitter (and if you do, tweet him we that we said “hey”)
Welcome to a rare FDØ foray into supernatural fiction. That’s right, ghosts and goblins and vamps and werewolves and what-not. We hope you dig it. The full title of this story is “Hunter Hunterson & Sons: War Journal.” That, however, is a little long when you figure the headline is going to be “BLOOD IS RED Episode #2: Hunter Hunterson & Sons – War Journal (Part 1)”, so we trimmed it a little bit. Why the long names? Because “Hunter Hunterson & Sons” is an ongoing series. You’ll hear much more a...more
Okay, the announcement isn’t all that major in the grand scheme of things, but it’s pretty damn important for us at Dark Øverlord Media. Hint: it involves something with the symbol over there on the right … Check it out, then feast your ears on the people who called the goreline at 206-666-GORE (4673). Leave a call, sucka! Or email an MP3 of your question/comment to email@example.com. You can also just send a plain ol’ email, and we’ll answer that on the air.
Sha-ka-paow! A new audibook begins right here, right now. These are stories from the BLOOD IS RED short story collection.

I got to do a cool event at Balticon 46, alongside Mur Lafferty, Nathan Lowell, and Christiana Ellis. Hosted by the awesome Pamela Gay (at right, who hosts the AstronomyCast along with Frasier “Raisin'” Cain), we had to do an “Iron Chef” style writing event. I show up, I’m given a couple of paragraphs, they start the clock, and off to the races. Here’s the result, a short little story about candy bars and zombies, quite worthy of the FridayFix™. If you want the entire recording (which is two hou...more

Junkies, don your armor and grab your weapons, because the GFL series is about to invade bookstores all over the US and Canada. We’re thrilled to announce the creation of Dark Øverlord Paperbacks, an imprint of Diversion Books. Dark Overlord/Diversion will publish trade paperback versions of THE ROOKIE and THE STARTER, which are scheduled to hit stores on August 7, 2012. And yeah, all-new covers. Bøøm. We’re wicked like that. Take a listen to the short interview Scott and I did with Scott Waxman...more
I know most of you have already secured your copy of THE ALL-PRO. But if you haven’t, or if you want a back-up, take a quick listen to today’s Fix and then go claim your books while you can! As Scott and I “grow up” in this publishing venture, we’re learning new things all the time. In November, when THE ROOKIE sold out, we learned that there are some folks who will wait until the last moment to pounce, and some folks who will be quite sad very quickly after the last moment that they waited too ...more
Scott’s 2012 tour and appearance schedule has been set! Check out all the fun below as we set up a little West Coast vs. East Coast rivalry! There will be freebies for pre-ordering both NOCTURNAL and THE MVP, freebies for showing up at a tour stop, and even a treat for whichever coast makes the best showing once both tours are done. You’re really going to want to listen to all these details Junkie, so I’m not even going to mention the big secret news about Scott maybe buying stock in Hostess to ...more
Here we go Krakens, here we go (clap-clap!). It’s almost on Junkies! The pre-order for THE MVP, Book IV of the GFL series starts tomorrow, February 4, 2012 at 9:00am Pacific Time. THREE-MINUTE EPISODE RIGHT HERE! Listen in for a few final notes about the site and what you’ll see/do/buy tomorrow. This time it’s even shorter than my last MVP-related FridayFix™. Still totally worth it. And, unlike last time, *this* time there might really be bunnies on the podcast!
Ladies & gentlemen, please allow me to introduce our new in-house designer, Scott “Big Fish” Pond. And since we wanted to announce Big Fish in a Big Pimpin’ way, feast your eyes on four brand-new GFL team T-shirts. Sha-ka-paaaaoowww! These were designed by Scott, and now you can buy them. Sometimes, Scott gets to do guest appearances on other shows. Sometimes the shows go well, sometimes not so much. Rarely, however, have I ever seen the FDØ™ enjoy himself as much as he did on the NSFWShow (part of the TWiT Network). We’ve linked to the audio, as usual, but if you have time do set aside an hour and watch the video. Hosts Brian Brushwood and Justin Robert Young are funny as hell, and the fans of the NSFW show make in-joke art as the show happens that will blow your mind. (Discl...more
We’re bringing back the Goreline now that we’re in 2012 and on the new site! This one’s a bit of a catch up, so listen to get up-to-date. One answer got a bit garbled. I blame Scott’s excitement over today’s trip to New Orleans. It’s regarding the choice of Sklorno names, and how they’re a throwback to Old Earth football-centric cities. (That’s what got garbled and cut out, so now you have all the info.) Also, we need new calls! If you want to hear your voice on the show, call 206-666-4673, or e...more
So, you need to listen to get all the goods, but it’s a happy Christmas Eve Eve here at the Lair of Døøm™. We’re celebrating the collaboration with IDW that will publish in summer 2012. Chris Ryall, editor in chief at IDW, joins to tell us all about it. PS: I’m a little hot in this audio at the beginning. Not surprisingly, I got over-excited and too close to the mic. Bah! Nonetheless, it’s worth you hanging on through that to hear the news.
You’ve all been letting us know what you think of the new site, and — more importantly — letting us know about problems and what you don’t like about the new site. So, ARealGirl and Scott have dedicated this FridayFix™ to filling you in on the State of the Website. We cover a few things here including Crack Hits, m-effing SPAM, the future of Junkie Spam Killas and the hard work of site creators Tay and GK of BackMyBook.com and website designers Len Peralta and Matt Murray. Remember, if you find ...more
Back with another GuestGoods, this time with artist, friend of DØM, and all-around good guy Len Peralta. Don’t know his work? Oh, you will shortly. And you can even grab some for yourself, just like us! (Check us out as Villian vs. Hero below!) What is GuestGoods? There are a ton of creative innovators out there, and we think it’s cool to share things that Junkies might dig. We’re approaching it from the “If you like Scott’s stuff, you might like this” perspective. We keep this show short! It’s...more
Awwww snap! Check out our brand-new show, GuestGoods. We’re gearing up complete website revision, which we plan to launch before 2012 hits, and we thought it was high time to dish out some of the changes a little early (You see that freshy fresh icon over there? A little taste of things to come. Oh, yeah, you know you can’t wait.) What is GuestGoods? There are a ton of creative innovators out there, and we think it’s cool to share things that Junkies might dig. We’re approaching it from the “If...more
A few weeks back we posted the “Cribs” tour of the Office of Døøm. The response was so good, I thought we’d try letting you “sit in” on one of our weekly Tuesday morning video teleconferences. This week we were scheduled to talk SiglerFest. As it sometimes goes with the FDO™, things did not unfold as I’d imagined they would. I will leave it to you to decide if that’s a good thing or a bad thing. We’re just about sold out for SiglerFest, with fewer than 10 spaces remaining at the time of this pos...more
ANCESTOR is finished, and now it’s time for the assault of Junkie questions. We took questions from email, Twitter, Facebook and this very site, and we’re ready to give you the answers. The FDO™ and I jumped on Skype for a remote interview. As usual, it’s very difficult to keep him on-topic, but I did my best. If you still have questions, feel free to call 206-666-GORE (4673) or email firstname.lastname@example.org and we’ll answer them in a future FridayFix™.
We’ve got a new feature this week! Junkie infected_once sent in a video question for the FDO™. Instead of ordering his instant death, Scott decided to answer by video in order to share the news with all y’all. Health Advisory: this video includes extreme adorableness in the still shot that comes in around 2:11, and again at the very end of the clip. [And you already know I’m not talking about Sigler’s shiny dome.] Don’t blame me if you fall over from the cute — you’ve been warned. If you have a ...more
The gang of MTV (in this case, that’s “Miskatonic Television”) stopped by the Office of Døøm to scope out how the evil half lives. So many of you ask about the Future Dark Øverlord’s work environment, we thought a little tour was in order. Fair warning: watch out for the bomb-chikka-bomb-bomb music, ’cause that’s where the magic happens. Click here to download the video.
Ah yes, time for more calls to the Goreline and the ever-so-sensitive responses from your Future Dark Overlord™. Some really great calls this time, including a few from the UK. Want to hear your voice on the show? Call 206-666-GORE (4673) in the US, or record an MP3 and email it to email@example.com.
‘Twas the night before Dragon*Con, and all through the con, people were sleeping, dreaming dreams of Han. Well, no, actually, it was during Dragon*Con, and no one sleeps there. There were more than a few Han Solos, though. At Dragon*Con 2010, Scott read his first monster story. “First,” as in, written for his fourth-grade class project. Several Junkies recorded this on their cell phones. We put the video together so we could give y’all a little FridayFix Christmas present. Enjoy! Want to see the...more
We moved 25 copies in just over an hour, so they’re gone. Sad for those that missed, but happy for our donation to the Wounded Warrior Project. Sorry if you missed it, but we only have so many to offer. If you want to donate to the Wounded Warrior Project directly, or just learn more about the organization, click here. Click here to download the video
We’re back with new Goreline calls! There’s so much info to be had in here Junkies! News about Scott’s 2011 Con attendance, news about Sigler*Fest (oh yes he did!) and much more. Oh, and he calls me a communist. But my favorite part of this episode might just be the new song, Pandemic, by Separation of Sanity. Yep, a hard rockin’ metal song inspired by Scott’s INFECTED series. It rules. Check out the band here. Have something to say to the FDO™? Call the Goreline (206-666-4673) with any crazy qu...more
And in this corner, weighing in at a combined weight of 450 fighting pounds, Scott “The Future Dark Overlord” Sigler, and Matt “Mad Dog” Wallace, the tag-team champions of the world! Junkies, we’ve launched TITLE FIGHT as a free novella over at Podiobooks.com. We trimmed out all the jibber-jab and give you a straight left-jab of a story right in your frickin’ teeth. This story is science fiction meets MMA (that’s “mixed martial arts” to you pacifist n00bs). It is part of the GFL-era storyline, a...more
We’ve got hot, steamy fresh Goreline calls for you. The Junkies pile on with mockery of Scott’s Bible/Myth knowledge (or lack therof). We get some Siglerverse timeline info, a question about THE CRYPT, and some utterly random (and completely unecessary) mentions of JC Hutchins. OTHER PODCASTERS MENTIONED IN THIS EPISODE • Mighty Mur Lafferty • StrangerThings by Earl Newton • SACRED COW short movie by Earl Newton, adapted from a story by your FDO™
Oh, my. This one’s hard to post, harder to believe, but here it is. Scott’s cousin Frankie made it to Dragon*Con 2010 late one night, and he invited me to sit in the hot seat. Even better, he asked the Design Diva of Døøm, Donna Mugavero, to be the “shot slut” for this episode. I’ll be honest, it’s all a little fuzzy. But if you’ve ever wanted to know a little more about me, here’s your chance. Somewhere near the end I dropped my mic, so the sound quality there gets a little bit wonky, be forewa...more
Please be warned -- this is not safe for work, this is not safe for your kids. This is basically a room full of people screaming foul language at the top of their lungs (and there is also some comedy in there, fo 'sho). What we have here is an undiscovered gem from Dragon*Con 2009. Scott's cousin, Francis Dominick Olivieri (a.k.a., the other FDO). Interviewed Pablo Defendini and Amy Greco who, at the time, worked for the kick-ass scifi site Tor.com. While Pablo was brilliant under fire, I have t...more
I believe it was Tolstoy who said, “I’m back in the saddle again.” Tolstoy or Tyler, I can’t remember which, but it matters not — what does matter is that the Goreline has returned. It’s been a long time since the Junkies heard their own mellifluous voice leak out of little speakers all over the world. These messages are a little old, but we’re going to catch up on everything we’ve got, and your FDO™’s snarky responses are fresh (and so clean!). Want in on the action? Just call 206-666-4673 and ...more
